Random Number Generator

Pick the lowest and highest number, how many you want, and press the button. You can ask for whole numbers or decimals, allow repeats or not, and sort the results.

It is fair, and it runs on your own device. Use it for giveaways, games, picking a turn order, choosing a sample or any time you want a number nobody can predict.

How it works

The numbers come from your browser’s secure random source, the same one used for encryption keys. It is far less predictable than the simple random functions in many programs.

There is a quiet trap when you turn a big random number into a number in a small range. If you just take the remainder, some results come up slightly more often than others. This tool avoids that. It throws away the few raw values that would tilt the odds and draws again, so every number in your range has exactly the same chance.

Both ends of your range are included. A range of 1 to 6 can give 1 and 6. If you turn on “no repeats”, each number can appear only once, which is how a raffle draw or lottery pick works. You cannot ask for more different numbers than the range holds.

Decimals work by dividing the range into equal steps. With two decimals, 0 to 1 has 101 possible values: 0.00, 0.01 and so on up to 1.00. Every one is equally likely.

Worked example: Picking giveaway winners

You have 250 entries numbered 1 to 250 and three prizes. Set the lowest to 1, the highest to 250, ask for 3 numbers and tick “no repeats”. Each winner is a different entry.

For a six-sided die, use 1 to 6 and ask for as many rolls as you like with repeats allowed.

Frequently asked questions

Is this truly random?

It uses your browser’s cryptographic random source, which is designed to be unpredictable. For games, draws and sampling that is more than enough. A regulated lottery needs audited equipment.

Can I use it for a giveaway?

Yes, for an informal one. Number your entries, draw with no repeats and keep a note of the result. Check the rules for contests where you live.

Does it save my numbers or settings?

No. Everything is made on your device and nothing is stored or sent.

How many numbers can I make at once?

Up to 10,000. With “no repeats” the count cannot be larger than the number of values in your range.

Are the highest and lowest numbers included?

Yes. Both ends of the range can come up.
